School Productions
Townsville Grammar School stages a major production every two years for Senior School students (Years 7 – 12), and this is a wonderful opportunity for all areas of Performing Arts to combine in a full-scale event which provides students with invaluable performance experience and a chance to perform in the Townsville Civic Theatre. In the alternate years, a smaller production is staged in the PA Space and features our Middle School students (Years 7 - 9).
The School has had a long and abiding interest in the Performing Arts and this has been encouraged by many of the Headmasters at the School with the first production at the School occurred in 1889. During the first fifty years of Grammar’s existence, theatre was an integral part of School life, but the productions were usually excerpts from plays written either by Shakespeare, Marlowe or Molier and they were usually presented as part of the Speech Day activities. In the post World War II period leading to the early 1980s, School productions consisted of concert evenings usually combining musical pieces and short plays.
